October opened with the River Group Meeting, (a joint meeting consisting of Egmanton WI, Laxton WI, Weston WI, East Markham WI and Sutton on Trent WI), on Tuesday 4th at East Markham. The meeting commenced with the speakers who were ‘Ladies in Pigs’ and group of farmer’ wives who talked about and cooked pork. The competition was for a recycled pig, and our entry was made by our younger members who produced ‘Quorn’ named because she didn’t have much meat on her.
She did not win, Laxton won, but I understand that they were praised for their effort and, I understand, that later someone actually bought her.
However, everyone had a very good evening.
We do not have a meeting in October as we celebrate our birthday and this year it was our 49th. Twenty-three Members and friends went for a meal at The Mussel and Crab where we had a lovely meal in delightful company. The planning for our 50th birthday next year is well underway.
Also well underway is the planning for our 2017 programme with, we hope, something to entice you to joining us.
Our next Meeting is on Thursday, 17 November when we will be welcoming Mike Storr who will be talking about ‘Masters of Mirth’. The competition is for ‘a joke’.
For our December Meeting on Thursday, 15 December we will be entertained by The Workhouse Storytellers from Southwell Workhouse.
