we turned to the other matters in hand.
The Women’s Institute Centenary Baton Relay, celebrating 100 years of the Women’s Institute in 2015, was discussed. This baton is going around the country to every institute up until the AGM in 2015. We are still not sure how we are to get the baton to Weston WI but our baton carrier will be Jean Marchbank who was a Founder Member of Egmanton WI in 1967. After the return from Weston we hope to go to the pub for lunch. Members have been requested to wear a hat of some sort in accordance with the old tradition of the Women’s Institute, not much used these days however. Please join us at the Village Hall at 11:55am on Tuesday, 17 June.
At our next Meeting on Thursday, 19 June we will be welcoming Joy Parsons to talk to us about Tai Chi, we also hope for a dry, warm evening so we can try it out on the front lawn of the Village Hall. If you feel like joining us, please do so but I would urge you to wear something loose and comfortable. (The usual charges will apply)
The competition will be for ‘Something Chinese’, I wonder what will emerge from the depths of Members’ cupboards this time!
On Thursday, 17 July Joan Cretney will be showing us The Wonders of Argentina.
Our August Outing will now be to Brodsworth Hall, near Doncaster and we will not be going by coach but driving ourselves. Confirmation of the date, either Thursday, August 14 or 21 will be given next month.
We then came to the topic of the evening, voting on the Resolution to be put before the WI National AGM at Leeds in June. This year it was about Organ Donation which brought about a sobering discussion. Although the majority voted for the resolution we thought the wording could have been better set out.
Then followed probably the best part of the evening, the cheese, wine and nibbles, provided by the Committee, during which Members were able to mingle and have a good old natter together, after all this is what the Women’s Institute is all about, women talking to women, whether just chatting, teaching something, learning a new craft or skill or making new friends.
